Frosty

Beer,
it makes me human…
is it bad
to say that?
Life is
a chore,
it becomes
encapsulated
and seperates me
from humanity.
I could hide inside
and play possum;
no longer
engaged.
And
I do…
frequently.
But,
a few beers
and the world
feels real,
the drama
and strife
become honest
to me.
I can relax
and feel
involved.
Too often this place,
our culture,
pushes me aside
(like an inside-joke)
and ignores me…
I will connect,
though,
and commune with you,
over a few
cold ones.

Sunny day

The bumper sticker read,
“war isn’t working.”
sadly,
Mr. bumper sticker,
you are mistaken.
Of all the typical
human endeavors
war alone
has not taken a day off
in millenia.
It is the most employed
of all of our failings.
The real question, is:
is war effective?
Sadly,
that will require
yet another bumper sticker.
Meanwhile,
war
keeps on working.

The clouds can wait.

I shot a glance
out of my bedroom window
at the thick clouds
of evening,
and I said,
“Wow,
those paintings
belong
in a cloud….”
It took a moment
but I reflectivity corrected
myself.
“Those clouds
belong in
a painting….”
But I had been right
the first time:
It is the paintings
that we love
that need to be
soaring over our world
and reminding us
of their presence
in our lives.
The clouds
can wait.

Beauty: oblique

I like looking at
women
as they go about
their mundane
tasks.
For the most-part
they are all beautiful,
primarily because
I do not know them.
Personality
has to be
eighty-percent
of attraction
or
repulsion.
Some women
who carry
very little intrigue
become
fascinating
as their personality
unfurls.
But on the street
they reveal little
and they are
all-the-more
beautiful
because of it.
